The brand was born in Turin in 1968 thanks to the intuition of Maurizio Vitale, the young CEO of Maglificio Calzificio Torinese (MCT), a family textile company founded by his grandfather Abramo in 1916. The name of the brand was born shortly after, during a meeting between Vitale and Lattes, the then president of MCT. Lattes, looking at the old Kappa T-shirts revisited in a 1968 style, asks Vitale: «And what do we call these things here?». And Vitale replies: «Stuff? Then let's call them Robe di Kappa, doctor». Robe di Kappa features a logo depicting two young people sitting with their legs crossed, arranged back to back, created by chance during a break in a photo shoot of the Beatrix swimsuits, when two models were photographed sitting, against the light, in this way.
