Born in the Bronx in 1940, Ralph Lifshitz was forced to change his surname as a teenager due to strong anti-Semitic discrimination. His early career saw him designing tie collections, but the subsequent creation of the classic men's clothing line "Polo" gave him his first successes: in 1972 he was offered a springboard with the film "The Great Gatsby", for which he created the costumes for the male cast, choosing from his Polo line several sweaters and suits from the 1920s. A few years later, the Oscar-winning film "Annie Hall" also saw the two actors Diane Keaton and Woody Allen wear Ralph Lauren clothes. Soon, the symbol of the polo horse, first positioned on the cuff of the shirt and then moved to the chest, became an icon of an elegance that is never excessive or vulgar, thanks to the sobriety of the lines and the quality materials used. An important leap into the future for the American fashion giant came in 2018, with the collaboration with Palace: Ralph Lauren approaches the world of streetwear and the collection is a mix of sporty style and timeless elegance, with corduroy or fleece fabrics and equestrian-themed trousers and shirts.
